Project Description

Agentic AI for the Era of XR explores how AI agents can exist within immersive environments as intelligent, embodied companions. The project investigates how AI and XR can move beyond utility-driven interactions to create experiences that feel natural, emotionally aware and spatially integrated into everyday life.

As AI becomes increasingly present in digital products and XR continues to evolve as a computing platform, this work looks at the intersection of both; asking how AI agents can behave, appear and interact meaningfully inside XR spaces.

Due to NDA constraints, the project shared here focuses on my design process, research approach and methodology behind building intelligent XR experiences.

Role

Led secondary and primary research, synthesized insights, defined design opportunities, explored AI embodiment strategies, developed future-facing XR concepts and interaction experiences.

Design Methodology

Discovery & Research

Conducted secondary research on AI embodiment trends, UX patterns and emerging AI products to identify opportunities for XR experiences.

User Research

Led qualitative interviews to understand user pain points, emotional needs, trust factors and embodiment preferences.

Design Parameters

Defined key principles for XR-based AI interactions including trust, proactiveness, emotional intelligence and non-human visual forms.

Use Case Development

Created future scenarios exploring how embodied AI could support users across productivity, wellness and social contexts.

Embodiment Exploration & Prototyping

Designed and evaluated multiple AI embodiment styles including realistic, stylized, abstract and minimal forms and developed proof-of-concept interactions.

Solution

Embodied AI Framework

Defined a strategic framework for how AI agents can exist spatially in XR through presence, behaviour, movement and interaction.

Visual Form Exploration

Explored multiple embodiment styles to understand how users respond to realism, abstraction, personality and emotional expressiveness.

Interaction Principles

Established interaction patterns for AI in XR focused on trust, productivity, emotional intelligence and non-intrusive assistance.

Future Use Case Concepts

Designed speculative experience scenarios showing how embodied AI can assist users in workspaces, wellness journeys and everyday routines within XR.

Insights

  • Trust is influenced more by an AI agent's behavior than its visual realism.

  • Different contexts require different levels of embodiment and personality.

  • Users prefer AI that feels assistive and context-aware rather than overly human.

  • Emotional connection can be created through interaction design, not just appearance.
